Mozilla Bookmarklets

Here’s some bookmarklets I’ve found quite useful in Mozilla. Copy the javascript lines and paste them to the URL field to use them.

• My monitor resolution is 1280x1024, and I usually have my browser window maximized. When sites don’t have a maximum width set for the text, they’re really difficult for me to read. This will force the text to wrap at a more reasonable width:

• If a page mentions a movie or an actor, you can highlight it and click this to do an IMDB search on the string. If nothing is highlighted, a popup window will come up and you can type your search in it.

• I don’t like underlined links. I’ve always found them distracting, and I’ve been turning them off since Netscape 1.1 days. This is never a problem, except for too-cute web designs that set the link colors the same as the text. Why do people do this? Grr. Anyway, this will turn on underlining for the currently open page:

• If you go to a page and it’s 404 or changed from how you remember it, use this to check if the Internet Archive has older copies:

• Working on similar principles as the previous bookmarklet, you can translate or, less usefully, shred the current page:

• Annoying page background? Turn it off with this:
